Little Aless is still sick, which caused me to pause and reflect today. Growing up, there were three products that made everything better. From cuts and bruises to sore throats and coughs, my grandmother was always “administering” (I use this term lightly) one of these products in or on me when I was hurt or sick:
We made our first trip to the ER last night with Miss Aless. At first we thought she had a head injury, because she knocked her noggin off of the side of the coffee table while trying to stand yesterday. Don’t judge. Stop thinking we’re horrible parents. It happens when kids start learning how to walk. And most of the time – like yesterday – there is very little reaction time. One second she was up and then the next, BUMP, she was down. It was a double whammy, too. After hitting the front of her head, she landed on her butt, lost her balance and fell over backwards – another BUMP! Neither hit was particularly hard, but sometimes you just never know. Read more
I have a theory. I believe the person’s voice a baby hears most often (other than mama’s) while in the womb, is the voice he or she responds to most after being born. Here are my top must-haves: Read more
We had a great time at the Maine Lobster Festival 2012 today. The weather could not have been more perfect – overcast, very little direct sun and a nice ocean breeze. As usual, the air was filled with the scents of salt, seafood and fried goodness. Thanks to G’Pa Wedge, I have a bag of divine kettle corn to last me the next week or so. Yum!
Here are some pics of my favorite things from the day…

Today, I tried a new self-tanner. Not one you pick up from a drugstore either. I indulged. This baby was special ordered. Since my skin cancer scare, which we’re still monitoring, I have vowed to never let the sun or a tanning bed toast my skin again. And I won’t break that vow. Read more
I grew up in an old farmhouse that was moved by oxen from its original location to the place it still stands today. Inside were all kinds of storage areas and “cubby” holes. One of those cubbies was like a hidden goldmine of old memorabilia, pictures, puzzles and games. This is where turn of the century postcards and scrap books sat waiting to be adorned upon. My grandmother and I spent countless afternoons looking through these vintage gems. Read more
