The Cellulite Wars: How DO you get rid of Cellulite?

How do you get rid of cellulite? It might be the million-dollar question…

Since I was 17, I have been fighting the war on cellulite. It’s been a losing battle and that’s putting it mildly. Even during my most hardcore weight lifting days, when I felt I was in pristine shape, it was still there nagging at me like a hobbit in a well. Cellulite does not discriminate. Skinny or far from it, most women get an unexpected visit from the Cellulite Fairy at some point in their lives. One day all is well. The next day you wake to find your once luscious ass has turned into a lumpy, dimpled, cottage-cheese resembling couch pillow. Cellulite’s a bitch.

What’s frustrating for me personally is that the presence of cellulite is not something you can just “fix.” And for the most part, exercise does not make it go away, nor do any so-called miracle creams. Both can help diminish its appearance, but the root cause of cellulite goes deeper than something lunges, squats and caffeine rubs can repair. The control freak sitting on my left shoulder has a hard time coming to grips with this fact of life.

It’s to the point now, after having my fourth child, where I don’t even want to see a beach again – let alone wear shorts. This makes me sad, because I used to love the beach. I’m a pretty confident, self-assured woman, but when it comes to my appearance cellulite has had a negative effect on my self-esteem. I’ve spent hours Googling “How do you get rid of cellulite?” to find so many mixed messages and advice. It seems surgery and invasive laser treatments produce the best results – but even those are only temporary fixes. And I’m not about to go under the knife for cellulite. Not a chance in hell. I want to win this battle on my terms; terms that do not involve more scarring and pain.

So what is a girl to do? For now, I’ll keep pushing forward. Doing what I can to keep the blobs contained. But boy, it’s testing my sanity and causing me to have some “moments” that are far from my best.

What about you? Are you in the same boat? Is cellulite wreaking havoc on your self-esteem?
