Many moons ago I owned a flower shop in the heart of a small, yet affluent Maine community. Given the demographics, there were a ton of dinner parties and other events that took place in this town on a regular basis. When it came time to order flowers for these get-togethers, one of the things that consistently surprised me about the shop’s clientele, was their preference for simple elegance. More often than not they preferred (and ordered) a simple bouquet of cut flowers arranged in a clear vase. I’d often ask for the particulars of the different functions – colors, themes, times of day, etc. – so that I could add a few special touches to the final product. One of the most appreciated things I did was match the color of the vase water to the event. Crazy simple, right? A quick and easy centerpiece was all the rage back then – and still is today. Easter Centerpiece: Bunny Carts

With Easter right around the corner, I was inspired this weekend to make an Easter centerpiece. Glancing through some of the pins on my Easter Ideas board on Pinterest, I decided to make a couple of Bunny Carts – idea courtesy of Martha Stewart. Overall it took about four hours to put these together, including a couple of layers of paint on the baskets, wheels, axles and harnesses. I deviated from the original how-to by using fabric ribbon for the trim on the carts and harness straps, filling with shredded paper grass and topping with colorful Sweet Tart jelly beans. The store was also short on regular white chocolate bunnies, so I used a cookies and cream variety instead. Read more

This year we’re going with an Old World, vintage hybrid theme for our Christmas tree. We’re also trying to keep costs down, because last year we went a little crazy matching the tree to the house we were renting.
